Katie Carnett grew up dancing in the Southern California dance community. She started training and performing at Palomar College at the age of 13. She attended UC Irvine as a dance major when she graduated high school. Katie has performed in many professional productions with various San Diego companies. She choreographed the school musical "Guys and Dolls" for Vista High School and was the coach of Torrey Pines High School Dance Team for four years. Katie also owned her own studio in San Diego for 5 years. After years of owning her own business, Katie realized that her true love was teaching and not the business aspects of owning a studio. She has been teaching at Royal Dance Academy for 5 years. She has also recently retired from her long-time position as competition director. Katie has been taking dancers to competition for the past 12 years. Her dancers have won many high point awards, scholarships, national championships, and she has won many awards for her choreography. Katie loves teaching both competitive and recreational dancers and feels very lucky to share her love for dance with the next generation. There is nothing better than having a student leave class knowing how to do something new and feeling more confident as an individual. She believes in teaching children good work ethics and discipline while inspiring them to pursue dance as a life-long passion.
